The Aboriginal Sports Circle of the Northwest Territories (ASCNWT) and Team NT are eager to be headed to the ancestral and unceded territory of the Mi’kmaq People for the 2020 North American Indigenous Games (NAIG) held July 12th-18th, 2020 in Halifax, Nova Scotia. The selection of Halifax represents a milestone in the NAIG movement, as it will be the first time in its thirty year history that NAIG will be held in Atlantic Canada. ASCNWT is excited to bring our territories diverse culture and athletes to the land of the MI’kmaq People.
NAIG is the largest sporting and cultural gathering of Indigenous people in North America. NAIG hosts more than 5,000 participants in 16 sport categories.
Team NT will compete in disciplines such as Soccer, Volleyball, Basketball, Swimming, Badminton, Athletics, Golf, Canoe/Kayak, Rifle Shooting, Softball, Wrestling, and 3D Archery.
The Canadian teams competing in the 2020 NAIG are: British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario, Eastern Door and the North (Quebec), New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, Newfoundland and Labrador, Yukon, Northwest Territories, and Nunavut - a total of 14 Provinces and Territories.
There are 12 different Regions of the USA competing at NAIG 2020, making a total of 32 States represented.

Opening and Closing Ceremonies
Opening Ceremonies will take place on Sunday July 12, 2020 at the Scotia Bank Centre. There will be no competition on this day. All athletes will be encouraged to carry their own community flag during the ceremonies!
A Cultural Village will be set up at the Halifax Commons for the duration of the Games. There will be many free events at the Village such as performances by artisits and dance groups, concerts, cultural teachings, campus information and more! All will be open and available to the public.
Closing Ceremonies will take place on July 18th, 2020 at the Garrison Grounds following the final soccer and lacrosse games.
